Seeking CTO/Founding Engineer for Ultra Low Power Sensor Start-up Please note this is initially an equity compensation role. Summary WHISPER Energy has developed a novel wireless, battery-free sensor platform to reduce energy waste and improve commercial building operations. Our proprietary multi-sensor algorithms and machine learning were developed from a Department of Energy grant (ARPA-E). The WHISPER team has over 70 related patents and extensive energy management, building envelope, and startup experience within our target market. As a portfolio company of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) we have support for a recently secured pilot project. We are looking for a part-time Founding Engineer/CTO to help commercialize our prototype and lead R&D at our lab located at the University of Colorado - Boulder. You will lead our tech strategy, fully own our hardware and firmware stack, and innovate at the forefront of a fast emerging and valuable target market. If deeptech, cleantech, building impactful products, moving fast, and exploring cutting-edge technologies and solutions excites you, this role is a great fit. Initial compensation will be equity only until funding. Responsibilities Evaluate existing prototype commercial hardware and provide guidance to evolve the platform to a V2.0 pilot-ready solution. Evaluate low-power communications protocol and alternatives and make recommendations to assure stable low-power communications capabilities. Evaluate battery-free implementation and restrictions and recommend path forward versus a battery-enabled solution. Finalize design recommendations for a commercial Minimum Viable Product, help source components and contract manufacturers to build pilot-ready prototypes. Document recommendations and future roadmap. Qualifications Experience evaluating and integrating off-the-shelf electronic boards, sensors, communication protocols and power supplies into a product solution. Firmware development and deployment experience. Preferred candidate locations are Los Angeles, Bay Area or Denver, CO but will consider the right candidate if qualified to work in the USA. Experienced working in a startup, early stage company or part of an entrepreneurial team within a larger corporation. Electrical Engineering degree. Whisper Energy is an equal opportunity employer.
