About Opensignal
We’re a fast-growing global tech company of 400 people, operating at the intersection of data, software, and telecom. Our mission is to improve connectivity by delivering real-world insights into network performance. Trusted by leading operators, regulators, and financial institutions, we provide independent, data-driven analytics that shape telecom strategy worldwide.
We move fast, collaborate openly, and solve complex challenges with smart, scalable technology. If you thrive in a scale-up environment where you can influence both strategy and execution, we’d love to meet you.
As Vice President of R&D Operations, you’ll play a critical leadership role across two key domains: Platform and Operations. You’ll be accountable for enabling scalable, reliable product delivery by driving coordination, governance, and alignment across teams. This includes building strong operational foundations for prioritization, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration. Success means faster, more predictable delivery, tighter alignment with business needs, and a well-supported R&D platform post-launch.
Platform Governance & Support
Ensure our data products work well for clients - both when we’re building new features and maintaining existing ones. You’ll lead governance around product handovers, clarify R&D responsibilities, and manage escalations across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and enforce documentation, support, and maintenance standards across R&D to improve long-term product stability. Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to transition prototypes into stable, scalable builds. Lead triage and resolution of product-related issues, coordinating across Data Science, Engineering, and Product. Create and maintain a centralized log of known issues and upcoming data/product changes as a single source of truth. Establish and oversee clear handoff processes between new product teams, R&D platform, Engineering, and other departments. Define R&D’s role in ongoing maintenance responsibilities across different products and ensure teams are aligned. Lead root cause analysis and implement process/tooling improvements to prevent recurrence. Use customer and support team feedback to identify and recommend enhancements to improve product quality or reduce issues. Launch and support a cross-functional governance group for third-party data management, including monitoring, alerting, and ownership structures. Identify and automate manual workflows to drive operational efficiency.
R&D Operations & Resource Management
Work across teams to align resources, prioritize the right work, and deliver against strategic business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Own R&D resource planning, balancing team capacity with team capabilities with project needs while supporting team growth and development goals. Implement and maintain standardized reporting and dashboards (e.g., Confluence pages) that track progress of major initiatives, escalate risks, and communicate status to leadership. Lead weekly internal updates and provide bi-weekly executive summaries on R&D delivery status and upcoming priorities. Partner with TPMs, Product, and Business Units to ensure we're executing the right work at the right time. Validate that incoming requests are well-defined with sufficient business context, and intervene when clarification is needed. Establish and manage a framework to assess new initiatives based on cost (resources), impact (value), and risk (likelihood of success). Support prioritization and trade-off decisions when goals, scope, or resources shift. Foster a culture of operational excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills:
10+ years in R&D, Engineering Ops, or Technical Program Management— with solid experience in data products or platforms. Proven leadership of cross-functional technical teams or large-scale programs. Expertise in resource management, project planning, and cross-team coordination. Strong communicator with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders. Hands-on problem solver, comfortable balancing long-term strategy with near-term execution. SQL proficiency and a strong grasp of data workflows. Experience in fast-paced, distributed, and matrixed teams.
Preferred Skills:
Telecom, AdTech, or analytics industry experience. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, or equivalent project tracking systems. Exposure to Agile or hybrid development environments.
