The Wonders of Our World (WOW) science outreach program brings creative, hands-on science experiments to elementary classrooms in Columbus City Schools. The WOW program sends volunteer Ohio State undergraduates, faculty, and professional scientists to local elementary schools to work with teachers in conducting creative, hands-on science experiments in kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms. Student assistants help lead WOW school visits and fulfill program administrative needs. The student program assistants are responsible for leading volunteer visits in the elementary schools, driving groups of volunteers to the schools, and working with the volunteers and teachers in facilitating the experiments. Other duties include preparing supplies, assisting with training volunteers, and
photographing/advertising
the program. Qualifications: Must have worked as a WOW Student Assistant 2 for at least 2 semesters. Ohio State University student enrolled in preferably a science, engineering, or education major (other majors welcome and encouraged to apply) with enthusiasm for working with volunteers and children. Must be Federal Work Study eligible. Must be available for at least 6 hours per week between 9 AM-3:45 PM, Monday-Friday, to lead volunteer visits. Preferably having 2-3 hours of availability at one time. The working schedule is flexible. Must have a valid driver's license and an excellent driving record. The ideal candidate will have confidence with public speaking, patience, and an ability to work well with both adults and children. Previous experience working with children preferred. The pay rate for this position is $16.75/hour Additional Information:
