A Data Migration Specialist is responsible for managing the process of transferring data from one system to another, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility throughout the process. This role usually involves meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of data migration projects, as well as troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise during migration.
EDUCATION; Minimum HS Diploma or GED
REQUIRED SKILLS: Proven experience in data migration or a similar role. Strong knowledge of database management systems. Proficiency in data mapping techniques. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills. Good communication and collaboration abilities. Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
PREFERRED: Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and technologies.
Responsibilities: Data Migration Planning Assessing the current data landscape and understanding the data requirements for the target system. Coordinating with stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the migration objectives and requirements.
Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) Extract data from the source system, transform it into the required format, and load it into the target system. Ensuring data integrity and consistency throughout the ETL process. Performing data validation and quality checks to identify and resolve data discrepancies.
Data Mapping and Schema Design Creating data mapping documents to define how data fields from the source system correspond to fields in the target system. Designing and implementing database schemas for the target system to accommodate the migrated data. Ensuring that the new schema is optimized for performance and scalability.
Testing and Validation Conducting thorough testing of the migration process to identify and resolve any issues before the final data migration. Performing data validation to ensure that the migrated data meets the specified requirements and standards. Collaborating with stakeholders to perform user acceptance testing (UAT) and address any feedback.
Data Security and Compliance Implementing data security measures to protect sensitive information during the migration process. Ensuring compliance with relevant data protection and privacy regulations. Maintaining documentation of the data migration process and any decisions made for audit purposes. Seniority level
