FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Purpose
The Family Literacy Program Assistant provides assistance to the Family Literacy Coordinator in the operations and facilitation of Kaleidoscope Play & Learn (KPL) group meetings. This position also provides coordination and support services to other Partnership staff and community service partners engaged with KALEIDOSCOPE and other Family Literacy programs of the Partnership for Children.
Qualifications/Requirements
· Associate Degree in any field, Early Childhood or other related Human Services field preferred.
· Strong organizational and excellent interpersonal skills.
· Computer literate; excellent word processing, as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
· An interest in early childhood issues and a willingness to learn more about the field.
Education and Experience – Preferred:
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Four-year degree in early childhood education or related field
1 year or more professional interpreting experience
1 year or more direct teaching experience working in a child care facility or preschool
1. Assist the Family Literacy Coordinator (FLC) with the administration of the Kaleidoscope Play & Learn Playgroups as directed; prioritize tasks and generally assist with organization and support.
2. Assist the Family Literacy Coordinator in ensuring that the playgroup is fully set up before the session commences and with cleaning up after the playgroup ends, and will also help to ensure proper sanitation and public health standards of hygiene are followed at all times, including – Equipment is safe and regularly checked for repair.
3. Assists Family Literacy Coordinator with planning, organizing, and implementing playgroups, including group logistics, marketing group meetings, etc.
4. Assists facilitating conversations with parents about child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
5. Assists in encouraging active participation of all parents in the group, helping to ensure that they are kept fully informed of their child’s overall development through verbal feedback and written follow up communication.
6. Provides support to the Family Literacy Coordinator including, filing, mailing, copying, making appointments, and other duties as requested.
7. Maintain confidentiality of information
8. Collect and compile data, prepare reports, and assist FLC with program evaluation and promotion as needed and requested.
9. Provide excellent customer service to families and child care providers
10. Assist at community events and fundraising activities of the organization.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Reports directly to the Family Literacy Coordinator

While performing this job the employee is:
· Frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
· Frequently required to stand; walk, stoop, kneel.
· Frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision and the ability to adjust focus to operate the computer.
Travel throughout Chatham County and
evening as well as weekend work will be expected .
Position Status: Three Quarters Time, (30 hours per week)
Classification: Grade 12
Salary Range: $26,063 ($16.70/hour) hiring rate (minimum education & experience)
$27,365 - $28,734 ($17.52-$18.42/hour) based on education and experience
