Position Summary The Senior Assistant Director of First-Year Recruitment plays a critical role in advancing UCLA's recruitment and enrollment goals. Reporting to and working closely with the Associate Director of Domestic Recruitment, the position involves high-level strategic planning, coordination, collaboration, oversight in the execution of recruitment/yield initiatives. The Sr Asst Dir is responsible for ensuring recruitment efforts are effective and sustainable while being mindful of resources. This position identifies and prioritizes target high schools, analyzing historical enrollment trends, demographic data, growth potential and geographic reach. This position strategically allocates resources with the aim to maximize UCLA's visibility, foster strong relationships and support a diverse and talented applicant pool. The position manages recruitment initiatives at approximately 550 high schools throughout California and nearly 100 schools throughout the US. The position provides leadership, strategic influence, and high-level collaboration while serving as the Admission liaison to the UC Office of the President, UC campuses, UCLA, UCLA Alumni Association and specialty schools representing the university in a variety of efforts. The position provides leadership for and supervision of 5 professional staff, 3 Assistant Directors and 2 Admission Officers. As a key managerial role within Admission, the Sr Asst Dir is responsible for conducting performance evaluations, identifying and supporting professional growth opportunities, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. The position also plays a key role in the undergraduate application review process, reviewing approximately 1,600 first-year and 200 transfer applications, and supporting specialized reviews such as supplemental, school-based, waitlist, and appeals. This role ensures the successful completion of application review by direct reports through active supervision, training, and performance monitoring. Qualifications 5+ years Experience in related field and/or supervising staff (Required) Experience working in UC system (Preferred) Demonstrated supervisory skills for training, delegating responsibility, and evaluating performance. (Required) Demonstrated leadership skills to encourage and train staff for programmatic responsibilities. (Required) Working knowledge of post-secondary educational institutions, their academic programs and student affairs/personnel services. (Required) Demonstrated working knowledge of the organizational structure of the Los Angeles Unified School District and other local districts, and California Community College System with regard to such factors as location, student population, and academic programs. (Required) Demonstrated skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels. (Required) Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communication, public speaking, and presentation skills, with a strong commitment to delivering inclusive, customer serviceoriented engagement. Proven ability to model and reinforce these communication standards within a team setting, ensuring that supervised staff are equipped to effectively interact with diverse audiences, including prospective students, families, and high school administrators including counselors. (Required) Demonstrated ability to make oral group presentations to explain admission requirements and opportunities to motivate students to higher education. (Required) Demonstrated skill in reading and interpreting written documents in standard English text such as admissions requirements, university policy, and procedural manuals. (Required) Demonstrated proficiency in preparing clear, data-informed reports, proposals, and professional documents using word processing and spreadsheet software, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Skilled in synthesizing complex information, analyzing data sets, and presenting findings in a structured and actionable format to support strategic planning and decision-making. (Required) Demonstrated skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities. (Required) Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates, school administrators and officials and representatives. (Required) Demonstrated skills in program planning, including implementation, administration and evaluation for specially targeted students. (Required) Demonstrated skill in interpretation admission guidelines and in analyzing academic and test records to determine applicant eligibility for admission. (Required) Demonstrated analytical skills to evaluate programs, write reports, recommend improvements, changes, and enhancements. (Required) Strong experience in developing and implementing recruitment programs. In the 2007 edition ofU.S. News and World Report , UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
