Unit includes 16 beds. Average daily census is 10 patients. Patient types/common diagnoses include ARDS, sepsis, COPD, DKA, stroke, and other MICU type patients. Patient ratios are 2:1 for ICU patients and 3:1 for IMC patients. Skills required include art line management, vasoactive medication titration, vent management, and weaning (with RT support), chest tube management, and critical thinking. Support within the department includes a CNA for ADLs, receptionist duties, and assisting with transport. Charge nurses and resource nurses are available. Phlebotomy services are accessible. RT support is available 24/7. Hospitalist coverage is active 24/7, while they do not cover CCU. Intensivist support is present 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is handled with backup services.
