Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed to meet basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when no qualified citizens are available)
- Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current full and unrestricted medical license
- Completed residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
- Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
- PRPs must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
- PRPs are not independent practitioners and do not have privileges
- Proficiency in English
- Board certification in relevant specialties and maintenance of competencies
- Physical ability to perform all duties without restriction
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and go up/down stairs
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement; applicants will be referred weekly
- Maintain board certification in specified cardiology specialties
- Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications
- Provide clinical care, oversight, research, and training
- Guide and supervise medical staff and trainees
- Participate in quality improvement and facility programs
- Ensure compliance with VHA guidelines and policies
- Respond to emergencies and be available for on-call duties within one hour
- Perform administrative and clinical responsibilities as assigned
