This position offers an opportunity to work within the VA healthcare system, with eligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides student loan repayment assistance. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount can reach up to $200,000, with an eligibility period ranging from one to five years, as determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications for this position include meeting the basic requirements and any additional qualifications specified in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent from an approved medical school
  • Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completion of approved residency training in a core specialty leading to board eligibility
  • Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions
  • Proficiency in English
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine with subspecialties such as cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure, transplant cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology, and/or clinical cardiac electrophysiology, with maintained competencies
  • Physical ability to perform all duties without restrictions, including standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs

Duties:

  • This is an open continuous announcement with weekly referrals
  • Provide clinical care, oversight, and administration within the Cardiology Service
  • Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Participate in research, training, and quality improvement programs
  • Supervise and mentor medical residents, students, and APPs
  • Respond to emergencies and be available for on-call duties within one hour
  • Perform administrative and clinical operations as assigned by the Section Chief
  • Engage in facility programs to enhance patient care and adhere to VHA guidelines
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on facility needs and provider qualifications
