Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited school.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by the VA or equivalent non-US programs with appropriate practice exposure.
  • Applicants enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Additional Requirement: Board certified or eligible in psychiatry.
  • Physical Standards: Must meet physical requirements, including a prior physical exam, drug testing, ability to lift 15-44 pounds, and other physical capabilities as detailed.

Duties

  • This is an open continuous announcement until August 11, 2025, with initial application cut-off on June 17, 2025, and subsequent biweekly cut-offs.
  • Eligible applications received after the initial cut-off will be considered as vacancies arise.

  • Major duties include clinical evaluation and management of patients, supervision of trainees, safety practices, and participation in hospital committees and research activities.
