Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical or osteopathic school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board eligibility.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in adult psychiatry.
  • Physical requirements include walking, talking, driving, use of telephone and computer, with no strenuous physical activity required.

Duties

  • This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025.
  • Initial referral cut-off date: July 28, 2025, with subsequent biweekly cut-offs.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.
