The Maintenance Mechanic (Auxiliary) serves as a maintenance mechanic on the day shift performing semi-skilled tasks, daily inspections and the upkeep and repair of building components and equipment to provide an effective maintenance program in assigned buildings.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responds to emergency and non-emergency requests from the campus community. Daily inspections of campus heating/cooling and building equipment. Makes necessary repairs to all building components and systems and obtains assistance from senior personnel when necessary. Maintains required equipment logs. Assists tradesmen and contractors in the repair and/or refurbishment of building components and systems. Reports deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel. Qualifications and Skills
3 years relevant experience
General knowledge of a variety of building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned; of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas. Working knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to complete logs, work order forms and prepare reports; to make adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
This is an essential position and requires on-call status and weekends on a rotational basis. Employee will be required to take additional training, including but not limited to Ladder Training, Heat Stress and Asbestos training.
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license may be required. Candidates selected for employment may be required to be trained to work with asbestos.
Salary and Benefits
$44,053 annually and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. When applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period, for this position.
