Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Job summary:
A Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment and machinery to ensure optimal operational efficiency and safety. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical equipment, systems, and machinery. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns using various tools and techniques. Repair or replace defective mechanical components, such as pumps, motors, conveyors, valves, etc. Install new mechanical equipment and machinery, including assembly, installation, and commissioning tasks. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and part usage, utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) where applicable. Follow and ensure adherence to all safety protocols and regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Collaborate with other departments and maintenance staff to coordinate repairs, address equipment-related issues, and improve reliability. Assist in the training and mentorship of new or less experienced team members as needed. Contribute to the development and implementation of maintenance plans and strategies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned to support the overall maintenance operations. Qualifications and skills
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical college or vocational training in mechanical engineering technology, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred. Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship or equivalent experience in millwright, machining, pipefitting, or welding is highly advantageous. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician or in a similar industrial maintenance role. Experience in a specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, industrial, etc.) may be preferred. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, components, and equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Demonstrated ability to use various hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively. Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical issues accurately. Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. Safety Awareness: Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and regulations. Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures is crucial. Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with team members and documenting maintenance activities. Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, pulling, pushing, and climbing ladders or working at heights. Manual dexterity and physical stamina are essential. Other: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Work is performed in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Exposure to dust, noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures. Used of PPE. May be required to work shifts, weekends, or respond to emergency maintenance calls.
