First Year & Family Experience (bl-fyfe-iubla)
The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. First Year and Family Experience Programs is dedicated to ensuring a smooth and successful transition for new Hoosiers and their families. Our mission is to provide first-year students with the support, resources, and programming they need to thrive at Indiana University, both inside and outside the classroom. We help students build community, develop skills, and make the most of their IU journey from day 1.
The Student Experience Designer in the Office of First Year and Family Experience Programs plays a key role in shaping meaningful and engaging experiences for first-year students and their families.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Offers hands-on opportunities to plan and implement programs, collaborate on events, and contribute to strategic outreach efforts. Gains valuable experience in event planning, leadership, communication, and administrative coordination while directly contributing to the success of first-year engagement initiatives. Serves as leaders by managing the First-Year Ambassadors. Staff's' events across campus to assist campus partners in their programming. Creates, plans, and works events for first year engagement Provides feedback on First Year Experience (FYE) programming and resources Attends bi-weekly in-person staff meetings Designs promotional materials such as flyers for programs and events and assist the marketing department with creating engaging content for social media platforms and newsletters. Manages inventory of promotional materials and program supplies, ensuring accurate tracking, organization, and timely restocking to support event and operational needs. Oversees the First-Year Ambassadors and the FYFEP student organization, including scheduling student meetings, maintaining official student organization status, and coordinating all administrative needs with the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Monitors and manages the communal office email account, ensuring timely and professional responses, proper email organization, and appropriate routing of inquiries to relevant staff members. Performs other duties as assigned.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position involves moving items and flexibility to work a range of required activities. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position requires the ability to work evenings and the weekends.
