In its 116th year, Union Board, IU's largest student programming board and governing body of the Indiana Memorial Union, plays a central role in enhancing student life by planning and executing diverse, high impact events that enrich campus culture and serving as the student voice in policy making through shared governance of the Indiana Memorial Union.

The IMU has been the heart of Indiana University Bloomington for more than 100 years. Since its earliest days, the IMU has served as the hub of the campus, providing a welcoming place for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors to connect with each other and the campus as they eat, relax, study, play, or celebrate. Now in its 116th year, Union Board is IU's largest student programming board, with 18 student leaders and over 100 members. It enhances campus life by hosting impactful events and representing student voices in IMU governance.

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator for Union Board supports student-led programming efforts to create dynamic and engaging experiences for the IU Bloomington community. This role advises and mentors student leaders, facilitates leadership development, and ensures the successful implementation of Union Board programs. Collaborating across campus, the Program Coordinator strengthens student involvement, fosters leadership growth, and enhances the overall student experience through innovative events and initiatives.

Department-Specific Responsibilities Works directly with students in a collaborative relationship. Serves as a strategic partner in the execution of goals and long-term vision of the IMU board. Helps develop future leaders in student affairs and higher education. Advises and supports Union Board student leaders in developing, planning, and executing high-quality campus programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and student interests. Fosters student leadership development through mentorship, training, and guidance on event management, budgeting, marketing, and operational best practices. Collaborates with campus partners, departments, and external stakeholders to coordinate resources and partnerships for student-led initiatives. Develops and implements in coordination with the Student Involvement and Leadership Center staff members and specifically the programs team a comprehensive training program (retreats, workshops) for Union Board student directors and committee members. Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of programs through student feedback, assessment tools, and data analysis, using insights to refine future initiatives. Ensures compliance with university policies related to student organizations, event planning, and financial management. Supports marketing and outreach efforts, ensuring broad student engagement and participation in Union Board activities. Supervises a graduate assistant and student staff, providing mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities to support their growth and success. Stays informed on trends in student engagement and campus programming, incorporating best practices to enhance student involvement opportunities. General Responsibilities

Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level. Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives. Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward. Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance. Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies. Plans and coordinates communications for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion. May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; make process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service. Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, education, business, or a related field Preferred

Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field such as arts administration WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience in planning, organizing, and executing student-led programs, events, and initiatives Experience supervising and mentoring graduate assistants and/or student staff, providing professional development and leadership opportunities SKILLS

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
