Assistant Track And Field Coach
The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Track and Field Coach. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees. Responsibilities: The Assistant Track & Field Coach will assist in administration of a Division I intercollegiate men's and women's track & field/cross country program, recruit as permitted by NCAA rules, conduct on-the-field teaching and coaching, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. Additional duties include: overseeing jumps and combined track and field events, serving as primary International student-athlete recruiting coordinator. This position will involve working evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent). Minimum of three (3) years successful collegiate coaching in track & field and/or combination of elite coaching or competitive experience at the USA Track & Field Championship qualifying level or above. Extensive knowledge and the ability to demonstrate strong technical and tactical knowledge in teaching and coaching track & field, specializing in jumps/multis, (combined events). Comply with NCAA rules and regulations. Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships. Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated through public speaking engagements, clinician experience, and/or use of effective and creative training/coaching techniques. Extensive knowledge of and the ability to utilize basic office productivity software. Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment. A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Program standards. Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience coaching with a collegiate track & field/cross country program and/or elite athletes and/or competing as an elite athlete is highly preferred. USATF, IAAF, or USTFCCCA coaching certification in one or more of these areas: Jumps, sprints, hurdles, combined-events, strength and conditioning. Demonstrated experience in international and domestic talent assessment and proven ability to recruit and commit elite level student-athletes. Demonstrated experience managing on-campus recruiting activities including but not limited to designing itineraries, setting up travel, coordinating meetings, etc. Working knowledge and the ability to plan and administer progressive training programs.
