Position Overview The Senior Electrical Engineer researches, develops, designs, tests, evaluates, schematics, and documents electrical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems, applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering. This position is responsible for working independently and as a team member supporting the development of capital equipment.
Essential Functions
Design and document electrical systems and components, such as cable, wire harness, control panels, and cable routing/management.
Propose specifications, create test plans, and conduct validation for electrical systems.
Maintain and create electrical system interconnect diagrams and schematics for current and future products.
Manage suppliers for prototype electrical assemblies.
Support supply chain management for end-of-life and obsolete electrical components.
Provide electrical expertise to support hardware, software, manufacturing, supply chain, and field services.
Conduct system-level integration and validation, including testing and troubleshooting.
Engage in continuous improvement to enhance system performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Document designs thoroughly, including BOMs, drawings, and procedures.
Oversee activities related to fabrication, operation, installation, and repair of electrical systems.
Manage small to mid-sized projects from concept to production.
Collaborate with hardware, software, and process teams.
Participate in team meetings and other assigned meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
5+ years experience in electrical systems design and development.
5+ years ECAD experience (Solidworks Electrical).
Experience designing electrical systems for complex capital equipment in high-value industries like additive manufacturing, semiconductor, or display.
Hands-on experience with prototyping, troubleshooting, manufacturing, or installing complex capital equipment.
Proficiency with Solidworks Electrical 3D for documentation.
Experience designing electrical control panels and machine cable routing with CAD software.
Familiarity with product design and lifecycle management software such as Solidworks PDM & Propel.
Strong knowledge of automation control networks, PLCs, motion control, safety systems, power distribution, and standards like IEC 81346-1.
Systems-level thinking with experience in complex electrical systems.
Willingness to work hands-on in building, integrating, and testing systems.
Detail-oriented in ECAD design, GD&T, FEA, and documentation.
Self-driven with the ability to work independently.
Strong communication skills.
Desired: Metal additive manufacturing experience, risk analysis (FMEA, ISO12100), EtherCAT, IO-Link.
