Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Manager for the School of Communication and Information - Dean's Office. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Information Technology, the Unit Computing Manager oversees daily operations of the helpdesk and IT support operation serving over 200 full- and part-time faculty, 50 staff, and 2,500 students.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Recruits, manages and mentors about 10 helpdesk part-time staff; providing tier III technical support. Identifies technology needs for the SC&I community, and managing projects to deploy products and services including software solutions. Leads group and one-on-one training for IT and other staff, faculty, and other end users. Develops documentation and policies for technical systems and processes. Investigates emerging technology trends, guiding and influencing the direction of SC&I IT services, informing strategic planning. Budgets development; equipment acquisition, inventory and life cycle management of the IT equipment. Collaborates with the Rutgers IT community, vendors, and the SC&I user community.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of three years of experience in user support is required, with two of the years in staff supervision and project management responsibilities.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have experience administering heterogeneous computing environments ranging from servers to personal computers and proficiency with support techniques and tools. Must be able to handle multiple, shifting priorities and deadlines and demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education computing environment. Experience with networks, LANs, and network software. Industrial certifications such as Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, and ITIL. Management education or training.

Equipment Utilized

Proficient on platforms including Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Linux Operating Systems. Must be proficient with hardware including servers, desktops, laptops, and tablets. Must be proficient with a full range of industry-standard software that supports higher education administration, instruction, and research.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to lift computing equipment up to 50 lbs.
