Under the direction of the CLO, The VP of Lending & Mortgage is responsible for ensuring compliance, process consistency, operational quality, and the successful execution of lending strategies in alignment with organizational growth goals. Provides day-to-day coaching and development for Sr lending staff, acts as the primary point of contact for lending operations issues, and supports the CLO in strategic initiatives to enhance member experience, mitigate risk, and drive loan portfolio growth

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Directly oversees Direct Lending, Indirect Lending, and Mortgage Operations teams, ensuring performance excellence and operational efficiency in accordance with Credit Union policies, objectives, and regulatory requirements. Provides leadership, coaching, and development for lending and mortgage staff, fostering an environment of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, implementing process improvements and quality control measures to mitigate operational and regulatory risks. Acts as the primary point of contact for lending operations issues, proactively identifying and resolving challenges to maintain seamless service delivery and member satisfaction. Develops, analyzes, and presents lending and mortgage portfolio reports to the Head of Lending, CLO, and CEO regularly. Creates readable graphic reports to support decision-making. Leads operational execution for lending initiatives, ensuring process consistency and alignment with the organization’s strategic goals to optimize member outcomes. Supports innovation in lending products, technology enhancements, and service delivery models, collaborating with executive leadership to advance the Credit Union’s growth and member experience strategy. Manages vendor relationships related to lending and mortgage operations, ensuring top-level service, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with Credit Union objectives. Develops, proposes, gains acceptance for, and implements lending and mortgage program policies and strategies, leading activity related to new product development and rollouts. Performs a variety of other duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
Experience Five to ten years of progressive leadership experience in lending and mortgage operations within a financial institution. Proven Track record of managing direct and indirect lending, mortgage origination and servicing. Experience with portfolio management, including loan growth and profitability. Education A bachelor’s degree in finance, business or related field is required. Licenses and Certifications such as NMLS, Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB), NAFCU Certified Lending Professional (NCLP), Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) leadership program, Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist (CRMS) Skills The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job. Has supervisory/managerial responsibilities that are direct or through work leaders or assistants. Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet these needs. Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff. Recommends candidates for employment, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff, and applies company policy. Must have an in-depth understanding of and ability to interpret regulations affecting direct and indirect lending programs as well as mortgage programs. Underwriting standards including regulatory compliance (RESPA, TILA, HMDA, ECOA, etc.) Secondary Market Guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA/VA) Loan Origination systems (FICS, Meridian Link)
Performance Measurements
Develop and maintain proficient knowledge of established credit union loan policy and guidelines, as well as applicable legal compliance. Effectively utilizes this knowledge to make sound lending decisions that adhere to policy, guidelines, and compliance. Maintains delinquency and loan loss ratios within established guidelines. Ensures direct, indirect, and mortgage lending teams meet or exceed goals related to production, underwriting quality, member satisfaction, and compliance. Maintains delinquency, loan loss ratios, and quality control measures within established guidelines. Effectively coaches and develops staff, resulting in improved performance, reduced turnover, and stronger team culture. Leads process improvements that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and member outcomes. Maintains strong working relationships with third-party vendors, internal departments, and external partners to achieve lending objectives. Completes all required compliance and operations training in a timely manner, ensuring team adherence to Credit Union and governmental rules and regulations. Provides strategic insights to the CLO and executive team to support lending growth and innovation.
Physical Requirements
Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. This includes but may not be limited to keyboarding, writing, and filing. Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods. Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 75 pounds for various needs. The person in this position constantly communicates in person and in writing with members, managers, and colleagues. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The ability to observe details at close range to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
