About the Role
Complete Building Services (CBS) is seeking a full-time Stationary Engineer, DC 3rd Class, to support a large campus in Washington, DC. The 3rd Class Steam Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of steam generation systems, ensuring compliance with District of Columbia (DC) regulations and facility standards. Responsibilities include monitoring and adjusting equipment, conducting chemical analysis, and maintaining detailed operational logs to optimize plant efficiency, reliability, and safety. The role requires technical expertise in steam and cooling systems, troubleshooting, training, and supporting plant operations. All shifts available. Salary ranges from $34.61 to $45.43 per hour, depending on experience. Start, stop, and monitor equipment to ensure safe and efficient plant operation Read gauges and meters, record activities, and analyze system trends Use computerized monitoring systems to measure and control plant operations Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime Conduct chemical analysis and maintain chemistry logs for steam, cooling, and condensate systems Adjust chemical treatment programs to optimize system performance and longevity Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and suggest improvements Ensure compliance with all DC laws, regulations, and plant procedures Follow safety protocols and best practices to maintain a secure environment Identify and address safety risks and operational inefficiencies Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair steam generation systems and related equipment Resolve complex technical issues, escalating when necessary Serve as a technical resource, providing guidance to team members You Should Have
High school diploma or equivalent Valid stationary engineer's license equivalent to Class 3 Steam Engineer (DC) At least 5 years of experience in steam plant operations Experience with chemical analysis and troubleshooting in steam plants Proficiency with computerized monitoring and control systems Knowledge of DC regulatory requirements for steam systems Experience with preventative maintenance programs Technical expertise in steam generation, condensate recovery, and cooling systems Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CMMS, and BMS Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to train and mentor junior staff Strong communication skills for record-keeping and reporting Ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision EOE, including disability/veterans Why You'll Love Working With Us
