Custodian (Janitor)
for the afternoon shift in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department. This position will be part of a team of (4) four custodians responsible for general housekeeping duties to maintain Village buildings and facilities. Key Responsibilities
The Custodian performs a variety of routine unskilled, and semi-skilled housekeeping work while maintaining Village facilities in a clean and orderly fashion. Individual working in this role must be detail oriented, and able to manage own time effectively in order to complete tasks appropriately in a reasonable time span. Duties include thoroughly cleaning all restrooms, mopping and buffing floors (experience preferred), emptying garbage from all offices and front desk areas; emptying shredders; emptying recycle bins; cleaning counter tops, window sills, window blinds, emptying all trash containers (inside and outside) and transporting to outside trash bins; transporting supplies, mail, small equipment and/or tools to/from designated Village buildings, and/or outside locations, as needed; performing other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
A high school diploma and valid Driver's License are required. A minimum of one (1) year previous custodial (janitorial) experience is required. Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Ability to understand the English language and follow written and oral instructions.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have a strong work ethic, and be able to work independently as well as in a team in an effective manner. They will have solid experience maintaining professional work areas and performing a variety of housekeeping duties. They will be familiar with cleaning principles and safety protocols. Candidates MUST have consistent availability during weekday, evening hours Monday-Friday from approximately 3:00PM to 11:30PM. Occasional weekend availability is also needed. The Village of Tinley Park offers a generous benefit package including medical, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance and other ancillary benefit options. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan.
