Job Summary
Provide skilled labor in maintaining the parks and trails system, natural resources, and snow removal. May be assigned to work with heavy equipment and other types of equipment to perform various functions as necessary. Respond to after hour emergencies and essential tasks as needed. Duties and Responsibilities
Perform maintenance duties related to Parks and Recreation facilities including, but not limited to:
Building maintenance and repair Ball field maintenance and grooming Mowing and trimming Snow removal of public streets, alleys, sidewalks, trails, bridges and right-of-way using plowing, blowing and shoveling Trail maintenance Forestry tree trimming Turf maintenance Playground equipment Irrigation maintenance
Make skilled repairs to building components and perform other construction duties in specialized skilled trades, including, but not limited to: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, and welding. Monitor building mechanical systems and equipment for safe and efficient operation, handling preventative maintenance and completing required logs and records. Performs skilled maintenance functions for equipment, grounds, natural resources, and structures, exercising adequate judgment to ensure completion of tasks as assigned. Operate equipment in a skilled manner necessary to perform assigned task in a proficient manner, including snow removal equipment. Provide custodial services necessary to keep buildings clean, safe and in good functioning condition at all times. Regularly and openly communicates with lead worker or supervisor regarding any perceived problems or concerns relating to work sites or job assignments. Provide effective customer service to public and other staff. Perform physical labor or other various maintenance functions in parks and other City properties as assigned, including Splash Pad or other specialty areas. Capable of working with minimal supervision. May be required to function as crew lead on short term projects as assigned. Perform other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High school degree or its equivalent. Valid Class B Commercial Driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Experience with manual labor and operation of trucks and light equipment. Ability to:
Physically perform essential functions and requirements of the position, including the ability to operate equipment/tools needed and work year-round in either an outdoor or indoor environment including extreme temperatures for extended lengths of time. Understand and follow safety/OSHA regulations. Work a varied schedule as assigned. Obtain certifications as required by supervisor (i.e. Certified Pool Operator, Playground Inspector, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated cultural competency and comfort with supporting the city's strategic objectives for racial equity. Recent experience working in a similar position at City of St. Louis Park. Certificates and licensing in various parks and recreation maintenance field in related areas.
