Employee may be required to work nonstandard hours and on weekends to support scheduled laboratory class delivery.Sensitive Position No Job Description General Description:This position will maintain the Biology Laboratory facilities and carry out all laboratory preparatory and support functions for any of the following courses: General Biology I & II, Botany, Zoology, Introductory and General Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Cell Biology, and Biotechnology. This position will collaborate and assist with laboratory preparation and will provide support functions for any lab courses offered in the biology discipline.Duties and Tasks:Prepare all laboratory materials and carry out timely set-up and take down of all laboratories, and exams (or other assessments).Support laboratory curricular development in collaboration with course instructors.Ensure all safety and environment health and safety procedures are followed, and all related compliance is maintained.Prepare reagents, solutions, substrates, microbial cultures, etc. to support laboratory instruction using basic and advanced procedures.Manages lab inventory and creates purchase orders to ensure that labs have the needed materials and supplies.Operates and maintains lab equipment including small equipment repair and works with staff and outside vendors to schedule larger or more comprehensive equipment maintenance and repair.Troubleshoots experiments to ensure that they follow lab protocol.This position will perform a variety of basic and advanced laboratory techniques in support of instruction including using an autoclave, pouring plates, creating solutions, and maintaining bacterial cultures.This position will maintain and enforce laboratory safety policies and will provide equipment training to other lab staff and faculty as needed.This position requires collaboration and coordination with class offerings and may include some early morning hours. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.KSA's/Required Qualifications KSAs:Laboratory skills in Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, General Biology, Cell Biology, and General Chemistry.Content knowledge of Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, General Biology, and Cell Biology.Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.Working knowledge of organizational procurement procedures.Ability to work both independently and cooperatively.Ability to maintain safety procedures in the lab.Knowledge of structure and function of laboratory equipment.Knowledge of the use and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment.Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques, including solution chemistry.Skilled in performing laboratory science calculations.Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations.Computer literacy and competency with basic software function.Ability to complete orders, maintain a budget and inventory records.Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.Minimum Work Experience :Experience working in a laboratory setting.Experience with laboratory inventory management.Prior biology laboratory experience in preparing laboratory materials for high volume college level classes.Administrative experience Additional Considerations Additional Considerations:Prior Biology Laboratory Experience in a higher education setting.Experience with laboratory inventory systems (e.g., Quartzy or similar a system).Experience working in or running a research lab or teaching lab in a higher/secondary education setting.
