NOVA’s editor-in-chief/publications manager will shape the college’s publication strategy and serve as the primary writer and editor of all college content.
Duties and Tasks
Manage NOVA’s publication strategy, content calendar(s) and editorial style across all campuses and business units. Manage and produce NOVA’s institutional faculty, staff and student newsletters, including exploiting the platform to maximize efficiency and ensure consistent branding, tone, style and content; setting and maintaining editorial and production standards; and developing and maintaining an editorial calendar. Serve as the college’s primary writer and editor, producing, editing and proofreading content for both hard-copy and online publications beyond the institutional newsletters such as the President’s Report, the college’s brand journalism and main websites and other projects as requested. Demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail to ensure all communications are clean, factually accurate, follow the Associated Press Style Guide and align with the college’s style and voice. Supervises writing and editing employee and budget as assigned. Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in the NOVA Brief.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Ability to write, edit and proofread copy to conform to Associated Press and NOVA’s editorial styles and ensure copy is free of grammatical and/or factual errors. Ability to quickly write and edit clean, accurate content on tight deadlines. Must be a strong communicator with excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills. Ability to remain flexible amidst sometimes changing priorities. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel), online communications tools (WordPress, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube,etc.). Ability to learn new technologies, content management systems and email marketing platforms such as Axios HQ, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc. Able to articulate the mission of NOVA to many stakeholders.
Minimum Work Experience
Experience writing, editing and proofreading content in a variety of corporate or educational settings. Experience writing, editing and proofreading a variety of content, including feature articles, interview Q&As, press releases, speeches, talking points, social media, website, technical, etc. Experience writing for a variety of audiences (college administration, faculty/staff, students, internal and external stakeholders, media, college board, etc.). Experience in supporting and advising senior leaders with writing projects and other communication needs.
Additional Considerations
Experience in conventional and digital photography and videography. Experience in higher education communications, especially community colleges. Experience working in a multi-site organization. Experience working in a matrixed organization.
