Overview : MLA is seeking strategic and business-oriented litigation insurance attorney to provide advice and support for all legal and operational issues related to claims management and carrier compliance. A successful candidate will have significant litigation (including trial) experience across a range of cases involving bodily injury and property damage with expertise in incident response, claims investigation, claim valuation, trial strategy, settlement negotiations, and case reserves.

8+ years of experience litigating insurance claims and carrier compliance matters, with a mix of law firm and in-house experience at a public company
Location:
3 days per week on-site in Western Suburb of Chicago, IL
Responsibilities Include: Provide pro-active and strategic management of the Company’s auto liability cases, bodily injury, property damage, workers’ compensation, and cargo claims to achieve optimal legal and financial outcomes Oversee all aspects of outside counsel representation of the Company in claims matters, including selection of counsel, quality of representation, valuation, strategy, negotiations, budgeting, and cost management Lead internal claims reporting, including working within the Company’s framework for reserve setting, escalation, authority, insurance, etc. Develop metrics for measuring claims handling performance and the performance of claims team Work with safety and operations teams to identify and implement process improvements that enhance loss prevention Attend mediations and monitor trials on behalf of the Company as needed Provide support for the Company’s engagement with insurance markets and the placement of its insurance coverage
Qualifications Include: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active member in good standing of the Illinois Bar At least eight years of experience litigating bodily injury and property damage claims in a well-regarded law firm, with jury trial experience In-house experience managing auto liability claims Strong experience with litigation involving truck/vehicle accidents and accident investigations and incident response Experience managing litigation in multiple states including evaluating medical records, assessing injury claims and managing subrogation claims Experience managing outside counsel to provide successful and cost-effective results Familiarity with third party motor carrier vetting and review Demonstrated problem-solving ability Exceptional organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate and satisfy numerous competing demands in a fast-paced environment Commitment to integrity and confidentiality Sound, pragmatic legal and business judgment Self-confident and self-directed, while collaborative Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to analyze data and processes and propose methods for continuous improvement Must be willing to travel from time to time as business requires
Pay Rate: $100
