Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completed residency approved by the VA, ACGME, or AOA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Non-US residencies followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice are also acceptable.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies can be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on a fee basis, under supervision, and are not considered independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible Vascular Surgeon.
- Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, and patient transfer. Exposure to infectious materials and potential for working in stressful situations. Ability to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 29, 2025, with initial application review on August 4, 2025, and subsequent reviews every 5 days.
- Eligible applications received after the initial cut-off will be considered as vacancies arise.
