Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the VA in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Residents enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are not considered independent practitioners
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Vascular Surgeon
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform CPR

Duties

  • This is an open continuous announcement until September 29, 2025, with initial referral cut-off on August 4, 2025, and subsequent cut-offs every 5 days
