Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position will involve tasks that are necessary to facilitate the digitization process Solid Waste Bureau (SWB) is currently undergoing with our Office of Information Technology. Digitization of Solid Waste Bureau is essential to maintaining current and accurate records and will assist the Bureau with greater access and searching capabilities to allow for more detailed application reviews and ensure better regulatory oversight. This effort will dramatically reduce the time and resources currently spent performing endless file searches and result in more time dedicated to the protection of the public and the environment.
Interns will learn that the protection of the public and the environment requires organization and attention to detail at all levels. The understanding developed will be that all technical skills, from information technology to scientific analysis, meaningfully contribute to assisting our regulated community and significantly impact our mission and objectives.
How does it get done?
- Intern will be assigned tasks instrumental in facilitating Solid Waste Bureau's (SWB) digitization process and will assist with devising
methods and procedures for obtaining data needed
- Electronic files for each facility will be organized in accordance with an established folder, sub-folder, and file hierarchy. File names
will be modified to conform to a set standard
- Active facility lists will be downloaded from SEP, and cross-checked with current permit and registration certificates
- All forms available on the SWB web-site will be converted into a fillable format using Word's Developer Tool
Who are the customers?
- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
- Internal staff
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Course work in the following disciplines is preferred: Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Hydrology, Wildlife Science, and/or Water Resources
- Ideally the applicant should have experience in developing and implementing processes, as well as experience in data collection and demonstrate proficiency with computer systems and software
- Word and Microsoft Office
- Have strong organizational skills, also technical writing skills preferred
Minimum Qualification
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video display, (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
