All positions at the NM Public Education Department are based in Santa Fe, however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

The Budget Bureau is responsible for overseeing and administering the Departments budget. The bureau provides support to all bureaus and programs within the Department.
Why does the job exist?
This job exists to provide fiscal support for the PED Budget Bureau. The person in this role is responsible for assisting in the management of all contracts, budgets, and invoicing for the bureau including obtaining quotes from possible vendors, assisting in negotiation, writing and routing of any and all contracts as well as timely reimbursement of all invoices and tracking of budgets to ensure monies are spent as allocated. The person in this role is also responsible for all administrative support for the bureau. The position assists Bureau Staff (as directed) with: compiling agency budget request and maintenance information, preparing account maintenance and related forms, prepare budget adjustment requests, or reallocation forms, preparing salary projections, assisting other agency program managers with adjusting or reviewing budgets and other Bureau administrative tasks.
How does it get done?
Assist the Bureau in providing budget strings for accounts payable (outstanding contract and travel invoices) and assist in tracking invoices to purchase orders.
Administrative support to include creating requisitions, payment packets, travel reimbursement, and contract review/routing.
Assist in the allocation of funds to agency Bureaus and programs including departmental. state and federal grant review, creation of Bureau documentation to assist with budget overview discussion, analyze and strategize to use various agency bureau's oldest budget first and to not revert unspent federal and state budget.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience in both New Mexico government and SHARE and experience working with many state or federal grant funding streams. The ideal candidate engages values open and transparent communication, works well in a team atmosphere and can answer inquiries from throughout the agency with exceptional customer service.
Minimum Qualification
Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
