Project Manager – Underground Utilties

A well-established Chicago-based civil contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee sewer, water, and underground utility projects throughout the Chicagoland area. The Opportunity
We are looking for a proven leader with deep experience in civil construction—particularly water main, sewer, and underground utilities. The ideal candidate will take ownership of projects from bid award through closeout, ensuring operational excellence at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of sewer, water, and utility construction projects from preconstruction to completion.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure work meets specifications and deadlines.
- Review and approve submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Track job costs, prepare progress billings, and ensure timely invoicing.
- Conduct site visits to monitor quality, safety, and progress.
- Lead project meetings and communicate status updates to all stakeholders.
- Enforce a strong culture of safety and quality on all job sites.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of project management experience in sewer, water main, or underground utility construction.
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, specifications, and safety standards.
- Proven track record managing budgets, schedules, and subcontractor performance.
- Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (experience may substitute).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $100,000–$160,000 DOE
