GENERAL FUNCTION:
Performs a wide range of duties related to the origination of residential 1st mortgage loans for outside referrals. Meets standards and objectives defined by management for mortgage loan sales. Assumes responsibility for the residential mortgage loan from application to closing.
Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures. Always acts in the best interest of customers and colleagues to ensure a positive customer experience. Operates within the Bank's risk appetite, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops internal and external referral contacts with sales leadership and Senior Loan Originator (realtors, builders, COIs, and others).
- Masters all aspects of the mortgage loan originator position, including agency and portfolio guidelines, processing, underwriting, closing, and pricing procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies, available loan products, processing procedures, and departmental guidelines. Completes all required training on time.
- Follows protocol for escalation of underwriting and pricing exceptions.
- Processes applications by completing URLA on a laptop.
- Utilizes technology for communication, accessing daily rates, credit reports, and uploading loan files.
- Collects documentation from applicants and delivers loan packages within set timeframes.
- Manages loan pipeline through to closing, collaborating with sales leadership and Senior Loan Originator.
- Communicates timely updates and status reports to branches and applicants.
- Maintains high customer service standards, managing expectations effectively.
- Participates in all mortgage and consumer lending meetings, calls, and training as required.
- Collects application fees as per policy.
- Participates in making appropriate referrals to other lines of business within One Bank.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Teamwork and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain optimism and focus under adversity.
- Proven computer skills.
- Basic sales techniques.
- Desire to excel in a competitive environment.
- S.A.F.E. Act registration at employment through NMLS is required at the time of employment.
