Position Details
Note: This position is contingent upon contract award and will be located onsite in the southeast, southwest, or central United States. Travel will likely be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests.
- Examine and analyze body fluids and cells; match blood for transfusions.
- Ensure compliance with the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) requirements for blood product maintenance.
- Analyze chemical content of fluids and test for drug levels in blood.
- Prepare specimens, count cells, and identify abnormal cells in blood and body fluids.
- Analyze test results and communicate findings to physicians.
- Culture body fluids and tissue samples to detect microorganisms.
- Test samples for chemical content or reactions, such as blood glucose and cholesterol levels.
- Evaluate test results, develop and modify procedures, and monitor testing programs for accuracy.
- Use universal safety precautions to protect against biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
- Order and stock supplies; maintain a safe and clean work environment in compliance with regulations.
- Maintain patient records, prepare lab equipment, and manage lab operations as needed.
- Provide supervision or act as Lead for the lab, guiding technologists and technicians.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completed a formal Medical Technology training program leading to a Bachelor's Degree.
- Certified by AMT, ASCP, or NCA.
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Medical Technologist.
- At least 1 year in a Lead role.
- Recent clinical experience in direct patient care within the last 6 months.
- Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented, organized, and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
- Flexibility to adapt to shift changes and operational needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English communication.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
- Work is typically performed in an office environment.
- Sitting and standing for prolonged periods may be required.
