Job Overview The Assistant Director will oversee all aspects of student accounts and loans, including payments, refunds, and adjustments. Responsibilities include counseling students and parents on payment options and financial aid, coordinating bank reconciliations, managing payment plans, maintaining collection agency inventories, overseeing loan counseling, and resolving account issues.
Responsibilities
Administer undergraduate and graduate student accounts, verify billing information, process payments, and approve refunds.
Manage accounts receivable, advise families on payment options, perform collections on delinquent accounts, and coordinate billing for inactive accounts.
Manage and reconcile the university's monthly payment plans and payments via third-party gateways, coordinate with accounting for reconciliations, and oversee loan counseling processes.
Coordinate reconciliation of transactions through the student account clearing account, prepare deposits, and resolve month-end issues with accounting.
Supervise and train Student Financial Services staff, resolve account issues, and serve as the primary contact for student account concerns in the director's absence.
Education & Work Experience
BA/BS required.
3-5 years of relevant experience, including 1-3 years in a supervisory role.
Additional Requirements
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to train others and interact across university departments and externally.
Experience making presentations to departments or management.
Fundamental knowledge of accounting, with the ability to apply concepts in routine situations.
Frequent external and internal contact.
Ability to contribute to strategic and operational decisions.
Problem-solving skills for complex, non-recurring issues requiring creative solutions.
Ability to develop new concepts and approaches.
Excellent customer service and telephone skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Workday preferred.
Basic accounting knowledge and excellent communication skills.
Experience with Perkins or Institutional Loan collections is a plus.
Willingness to collaborate in assisting families with educational financing.
