The Director of Project Management is responsible for leading the project management function. This leadership role ensures that all projects and initiatives are executed efficiently and drive measurable business outcomes. This leader is accountable for executing based on project prioritization and a governance framework, operationalizing PMO best practices, and cultivating a culture of proactive planning, intelligent risk mitigation, cross-functional integration, resource utilization, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities: Project Execution: Responsible for the performance of all Blue Heron projects through proactively identifying and mitigating for potential project-level risks, bottlenecks, and decision points. Creates and implements standardized project reviews and pre-mortem sessions to identify and eliminate obstacles before they arise. Develops, maintains, and presents leading indicator dashboards to predict future schedule delays and budget overruns, enabling early intervention. Leads the implementation of a "rolling lookahead" process across all projects, aligning project teams on near-term risks and decisions. Supervises a structured change management process, including potential cost/schedule trade-off assessments and pre-approval of contingency strategies for anticipated changes. Supports project teams in scenario planning to align stakeholders on impacts of client or design-driven changes before they occur. Introduce standardized methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and processes for end-to-end project delivery. Lead the Project Management team: Responsible for staff planning and resource planning. This includes training, mentoring, retention and recruiting staff. Mentors Project Managers to act as anticipatory leaders, owning their project's proactive planning and cross-functional coordination. Establishes training programs that equip Project Managers with tools and frameworks for early issue detection, risk scoring, and mitigation planning. Responsible for providing direct support to project teams to resolve and / or elevate relevant project level issues to leadership. Responsible for supporting project teams with the client/stakeholder interface to ensure a successful project and positive experience. Cross Functional Integration and Bottleneck Resolution: Interfaces with other functional leaders to improve delivery processes and increase efficiency. Create a feedback loop to identify best practices between Design, Purchasing and Construction. Responsible for reviewing project schedules, contingency plans, and budgets ensuring change procedures are followed and effective communication with all stakeholders. Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a central point of communication for executives and project sponsors, and stakeholders. Support project teams in managing the client interface, ensuring alignment and exceptional service. Deliver data-informed insights and recommendations that guide executive decisions on trade-offs, reprioritizations, and resource reallocations. Cultural Leadership: Support and reinforce Blue Heron’s Core Values, acting as a coach, leader, and negotiator. Serves as a central point of communication for executives and project sponsors ensuring transparency and alignment. Requirements Essential Qualifications 12+ years of program and project management experience, showing increasing levels of responsibility and experience leading teams. Project leadership experience within land development, residential construction, custom homebuilding, design-build and/or commercial construction preferred. Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Lean, Six Sigma) preferred. Experience managing cross-functional and cross-departmental programs. Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and communication skills. Strong collaborative mindset. PMP certification preferred Experience working with architects and designers. Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally. Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports the successful completion of a project. Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights for executive leadership.
