Triage experience strongly preferred. Description: The unit has a total of 10 Labor and Delivery beds. There are 2 operating room suites designated for C-sections. Labor and Delivery nurses circulate during procedures. The unit features 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds. Approximately 120 births occur each month on average. Patient ratios follow specific guidelines, primarily 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 couple care in postpartum. Nurses are required to maintain specific certifications. Common patient diagnoses include laboring patients at 32 weeks and greater, elective inductions, medical inductions, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and well newborns. RNs are responsible for titrating various medications, primarily Pitocin, magnesium, and occasionally insulin. Each shift is staffed with a Charge Nurse, Resource Nurse, and House Supervisor. The Charge Nurse and Resource Nurse do not have assigned patient loads. Certified Nursing Assistants are available on the floor 4-5 days per week. A unit clerk is present 24/7. Obstetric hospitalists are available 24/7. Midwives are always on call. A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is also on staff 24/7, with a Neonatologist available onsite within 15 minutes. Anesthesia services are available 24/7 through Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. There are no Tele/Monitor Technicians in this unit. The Electronic Fetal Monitoring system used is GE Connect. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or from 7 PM to 7 AM. Staff is restricted from working more than five consecutive shifts. Traveler scheduling requests outside of approved time off can be accommodated. Weekend and holiday requirements are dependent on unit needs. There is no call or standby requirement. Travelers may be required to float to similar units within the organization. Scrubs are provided in blue color. A customized orientation may vary for each traveler, typically ranging from 4 to 6 shifts.
