During the day shift, there are 5 RNs, 1 Clinical Coordinator, and 2 Patient Care Technicians. The night shift consists of 5 nurses and 1 Patient Care Technician. The patient ratio is 4:1. Equipment includes central lines, PCA, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, and drains. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Most recruited skills include: - A strong ability to read cardiac monitors - Competence in administering narcotics. Preferred skills include: - Stepdown experience - Cardiac knowledge. Typical procedures performed in this unit include: - CABG - Valve replacement - TAVR - Mitral clip - Thoracotomy - Atrial fibrillation - Congestive heart failure - Myocardial infarction - Administration of cardiac drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and nitroglycerin.
