Top Secret Engineering Position

Help lead and manage major programs that develop new tools, and analytical methods and processes to predict ship survivability and lethality of weapons on maritime targets. Formulate research and development work proposals and solicit resource sponsors. Perform short- and long-range planning, preparing and presenting proposals, and managing customers' expectations. Develop, implement, and transition new technologies involving analytical methods that improve the ability to predict the response of ships to the damaging effects of a conventional air or underwater weapon attack. Plan and conduct tests, trials, analyses and studies of air and underwater weapons effects to improve ship survivability and/or lethality of weapons on maritime targets. Support the development and implementation of new testing strategies. Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 661, proficiency level Intermediate the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies. The laboratory work and field test activities include extreme environmental and climatic factors, stooping, bending, lifting of heavy objects, and positioning through spaces aboard Navy ships and test vessels. This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Civil Engineer (0810-series), an Electrical Engineer (0850-series), or a Naval architect (0871-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 pay band (GS-12 and GS-13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer leading and managing programs that test ship survivability and weapon lethality on maritime targets for the development of warfare programs. Applicants must possess: Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics. OR Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
