Senior Accountant

Under the general direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant assists in accomplishing the financial and compliance management activities of La Familia Medical Center and provides financial information to management. This position performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experience and application of accounting principles and practices in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable grant terms and conditions, other contractual obligations, and Governing Board-approved financial policies of LFMC. Essential Responsibilities: Cash controls: Receives daily cash bags and payment batch reconciliations reports from clinics, deposits cash receipts daily and oversees cash receipts transaction posting to the general ledger. Assists in month-end and year-end close activities including preparing journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations. Performs balance sheet reconciliations; Assists with recording the cost of newly added fixed assets and tracks existing ones. Assists in calculating and recording depreciation/amortization and disposal of fixed assets for both internal and grant reporting purposes. Assists in the annual audit process to ensure timely provision of worksheets, accounting and operational details, and other information as requested. Performs annual inventory of pharmaceutical, medical, dental, and general supplies. Maintains grant files, including final signed agreements, approved budgets, and other relevant information for federal, state, and local grants and cooperative agreements. Works with Development to maintain the grants dashboard (Master List) and updated personnel allocations, reporting and invoicing requirements for all grants. Partners with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Development Officer to create budgets and other documentation for grant proposals. Submits financial reports to funders as required under agreements. Prepares the monthly recognition of grant revenue via journal entry. Ensures the accuracy of grant cost allocations with the fund accounting system (MIP). Provides monthly grant reports to leadership and managers for review. Assists with the procurement processes through verification of authorized purchases per funding contracts and LFMC policies and procedures. Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills/Training: Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited college of business administration or management is preferred with a minimum of four (4) years job related experience. At least 4 years of similar experience may be substituted for the degree requirement, provided experience shows progression into a supervisory or increased responsibility level in a similar type of job function, during which skills and abilities to perform all essential functions have been amply demonstrated at a consistently competent level. Recent health care accounting experience in the Federally Qualified Health Center environment highly desirable or experience in governmental/not-for-profit organizations. CPR Training required. Ability to prioritize work assignments and a willingness to work the hours necessary to meet established deadlines. Proficiency in using financial and business computer applications, specifically Microsoft Excel and MIP accounting software. Ability to analyze and interpret financial information. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and financial policies and procedures. Attention to detail and accuracy and meticulous in the presentation of work products. Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and confidentiality. Promotes an environment of teamwork in problem solving Fluent in English required.
