This is miscellaneous laboring and maintenance work. An employee in this class performs a variety of miscellaneous laboring and maintenance work in accordance with established schedules and special instructions. Supervision is given by a skilled tradesman. Maintenance Worker II or other supervisor through inspection of work before and after completion. Duties And Responsibilities
Duties (not all inclusive): Sweeps and mops building floors clean rest rooms, and ensures that supplies of soap, towels, and other necessary articles are replenished. Mows and cuts grass around the building and grounds. Collects trash and garbage from buildings and grounds and disposes of same according to instructions. Loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies being received or delivered. Assists with the unskilled work required by skilled tradesmen performing repair's and installations. Cleans, washes, and waxes fire trucks, cars, and other vehicles. Operates small electrical and gasoline pumps, lubricating them and ensuring that they are supplied with water and fuel and making minor adjustments where necessary and reports major breakdowns or malfunctions to proper authorities. Performs other related work as required. Minimum Qualifications
Some experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled building and mechanical maintenance or repair tasks--Trade Helper type. Necessary special qualification: possession or ability to qualify for an automotive vehicle operator's license valid in the Virgin Islands. Position Factors
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and all other persons contacted during the course of the work. Good physical condition sufficient to allow performance of heavy manual labor. Ability to read and write.
