Job Summary
NAES is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee construction of a BESS project in Michigan. The Construction Manager will act on behalf of the Owner, coordinating across EPC contractors, OEMs, utilities, and permitting authorities. The Construction Manager will ensure that contractor activities, including environmental, health, and safety (EHS) issues, project delays, cost overruns, and scheduling impacts, are managed effectively. The Construction Manager role requires consistent, proactive communication with the Owner or their designee to provide timely updates and recommend solutions that maintain project alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Represent the Owner during all phases of construction on-site. Lead and document daily construction meetings with EPC and subcontractors Monitor construction progress and contractor performance against the project schedule. Track and resolve punch list items in coordination with stakeholders. Interface regularly with EPC firm, OEMs and utility partners Provide daily and weekly reporting to Owner on site status, schedule, risks, and corrective actions. Ensure full compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and reporting protocols. Promote a proactive safety culture on-site through daily engagement, issue resolution, and enforcement of safety plans. Support commissioning and turnover activities alongside commissioning leads Ensure contractual, technical, and quality compliance across all site activities.
Job Requirements
Strong knowledge of utility-scale BESS components including inverters, battery enclosures, and HV substations Experience coordinating high-voltage infrastructure work (e.g., 138kV Collector Substations) Familiarity with permitting processes, site logistics, and QA/QC procedures Experience using project collaboration tools (e.g., Procore, Aconex, MS Project, or Primavera P6) OSHA 30 certification and working knowledge of NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and general construction safety protocols.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk construction sites, climb ladders, and perform site inspections. Must be able to lift to 30 pounds and work in outdoor environments in varying conditions.
Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred 10+ years of experience in construction management or power industry projects Seniority level
