No dual-state employment with another state agency or higher education is allowed. General Description
Performs advanced work associated with a critical infrastructure including network (LAN, WAN, VPN and VoIP), servers, operating systems, and applications. Serve as a subject matter expert for complex servers, operating systems, and networks. Leads and/or participate in technical design, planning, implementation, performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical network systems. Work also involves network design, installation, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware resources for potential enhancements. Work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Qualifications
Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities (80%): Administers, monitors, and maintains networks, servers, operating systems, and takes corrective measures to ensure efficient performance. Evaluates various networks, servers, and operating systems, to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency. Coordinates and/or perform tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the agency systems. Monitors programs and documentation for backup and restoration of servers, operating systems, and applications. Administers and monitors security systems included in the network, servers and operating systems. Configures automation routines using scripting and other programming languages. Manages TMB racks, computer host systems and network environments such as air-conditioning systems, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection systems. Planning, scheduling, installing, migrating, and configuration of servers, operating systems, and applications (15%): Develops information technology disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Coordinates procedures necessary to save and recover servers, operating systems, applications, and networks from hardware and software failures. Evaluates technologies and agency requirements to develop and recommend long term server and networking plans. Performs related work as assigned (5%) Required Experience and Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, or management information systems is generally preferred. Education and experience may be substituted for one another. At least four (4) years of work experience in network administration or equivalent experience. Knowledge of server, storage, and networking hardware. Experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN). A minimum of two (2) years of experience configuring and administering firewalls. Experience with cloud-based Microsoft products. Technical Skills:
a. Experience managing a Microsoft server environment including: Windows Server (2008+) Hyper-V Active Directory Remote Desktop Services Terminal Servers b. Experience with SonicWall firewall software. c. Working knowledge of telecommunications systems. d. Experience installing and maintaining Dell networking equipment. e. Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell or equivalent. f. Experience managing network infrastructure (switches, routers, advanced networking). Preferred Experience and Education:
At least six (6) years of work experience in network administration or equivalent experience. Experience in Storage Area Networks (SAN). Experience with cloud-based Microsoft products. At least 4 years of experience managing a Microsoft Hyper-V cluster environment including: Experience working with Dell OS10. Experience working with Ruckus switches. Experience managing IIS. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrates strong problem solving and communication skills, including but not limited to: Analyzing problems and developing solutions. Determine systems and network problems. Communicate effectively with clients and/or customers to gather information to explain policies and procedures. Ability to work independently. Self-motivated to complete projects. Successfully manage multiple tasks. Communicates both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff. Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds. Work Environment Requirements:
Due to office space limitations, the principal job functions may be performed in a home-based office environment that require: Regular and punctual attendance Monday Friday. Must respond to internal and external communications in a timely manner which is at least: Within 72 hrs (3 business days) of when external communication is received Within 24 hrs (1 business day) of when internal communication is received Within 15 minute while working remotely during business hrs if contacted by your Manager unless you are on a pre-approved leave or on a recognized lunch or exercise break Frequent use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones Frequent sitting Frequently working under deadlines, as a team member, and in direct contact with others Compliance with all agency policies and procedures, including but not limited to applicable confidentiality, security and safety rules, regulations and standards Legal Requirements:
