Responsibilities: Admit, transfer and discharge patients on one or more inpatient units. Process physician's orders, and referrals. Record and coordinate patient appointments and tests. Procure supplies, equipment and services for patients. Receive and assist patients, visitors and staff. Maintain census information. Assist in the training of unit clerks, and orient staff to new policies and procedures. Required Qualifications: Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Customer service experience necessary. Demonstrated interpersonal and problem solving skills. Multitasking ability essential. Ability to work with many details with accuracy. Data entry or computer experience necessary. Desired Qualifications: Previous experience as an inpatient clerk in a medical setting desired. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. Work Schedule: This is a 24-hour evening shift position (3:30 PM - midnight) in C&W (Pediatric). Union Affiliation: This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Background Screening: Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
