Job Summary

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, and monitoring the IP core network, transport network, and access network for voice, broadband, and IPTV services.

Duties and Responsibilities • Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and administration of voice, broadband, and IPTV service deployments with an emphasis on the underlying IP core network components. • Develop design specifications, technical requirements, technical drawings, and documentation as needed to ensure successful delivery of IP based services. • Provide recommendations on capital budget planning related to core network equipment, including IP core routers, Packet Optical Transport products, FTTH Access products, and related network equipment. • Conduct research on network products, services, and standards in support of deployment of new services related to growing the overall business. Evaluate different vendors, perform product testing and evaluations, and make purchase recommendations. • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs for IP core network components. • Manage IP core routers including configuration, software upgrades, and capacity planning. • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve trouble tickets related to core networking equipment. • Serve as an escalation for network support technicians as necessary. • Proactively monitor core network equipment and critical transport circuits. Establish performance criteria and capacity thresholds for the network. • Work closely with other departments to design and roll out new technologies and services. • Attend various industry educational events, conferences, and seminars to stay informed on industry trends and new products and technologies. • Train coworkers on new products and technologies to ensure successful deployment of new products and services. • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management*.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of telecommunications construction and engineering practices and principles. • Proven experience working with IP networking including DHCP, DNS, network security, ACLs, Ethernet switching, QoS, SNMP, and NAT. • Proven experience working with common IP protocols used in Service Provider or Data Center networking such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, PIM, ISIS, EVPN, Segment-Routing, HSRP/VRRP, L3VPN, L2VPN. • Proven experience or familiarity with Cisco Nexus datacenter switching in HA topologies or similar technologies. • Proven experience or familiarity with Cisco IOS-XE and IOS-XR routing platforms (Cisco ISR, ASR 1k and 9k, NCS). • Proven experience with IP subnetting. • Desired knowledge of Ciena 6500 OTN including Ciena MCP/Navigator. • Experience or familiarity with BGP peering with 3rd parties and troubleshooting routing with 3rd party networks. • Desired knowledge of network automation practices (Python scripting, Ansible, NETCONF, XML/YAML, REST). • Desired experience or familiarity working with NFV, SDN, and cloud computing technologies. • Desired experience or familiarity with DSL or GPON access technologies. • Desired experience or familiarity with Genband IP switching, Calix E7 access networks, Adtran TA5000, RAD L2 CPE. • Desired experience or familiarity working with NIST Cybersecurity or similar frameworks. • Skilled in problem-solving, analytical thinking and risk assessment. • Skilled in developing and implementing project plans. • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. • Ability to pay close attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and as a team player. • Ability to manage time and stressful situations.

Education & Experience Requirements

Valid driver's license required. High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current CCNA or CCNP Certification.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time. • Must be able to operate computer and other office equipment. • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. • Must be able to move around the office to assess and install networking equipment. • Must be able to kneel and stoop to access and install equipment. • Must be able to communicate and collaborate with coworkers and various business partners virtually, face-to-face, and over the phone. • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required or scheduled. • Travel and overtime as required or scheduled for urgent issues and system maintenance. • Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Exposure to moderate noise levels from equipment a times.
