Site Safety Manager – Los Alamos NM

nLocation: Los Alamos NM Los Alamos Labs
nApollo Mechanical Projects Division has an immediate opening for a self-motivated Site Safety Manager to help build and be a key member of a high functioning construction project team in Los Alamos NM. This position will coordinate and administer Site Safety Programs for compliance with federal, state, local and company safety and occupational health standards and procedures. This position will provide safety resource support for assigned operating units including training and permitting. Additional duties will include leading or participating in incident investigations, emergency response, conducting site inspections (track all corrective actions to closure), performing job safety analysis, maintain jobsite/specific documentation, and carrying out any additional assignments deemed appropriate by the Health & Safety Manager. They must provide overall Safety and Health Leadership to ensure all employees return ‘Home Health - Home Safe’ each shift.

n•Working knowledge of DOE and/or regulatory requirements related to safety and industrial hygiene in a construction environment.
n•Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction and OSHA 1910 General Industry.
n•Working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring team and project success.
n•Experience and skill in the preparation and communication of safety and industrial hygiene technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
n•A college degree (Associates, Bachelor, Masters) in Occupational Safety and Health or other related fields of study in Occupational Health, Environmental or Safety Sciences (e.g. Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Environmental Protection). Previous experience (6 months minimum) in safety, health, environmental or emergency response area is also required; or
n•Professional certification as an Occupational Health Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Safety Health Technologist (CHST), from the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental, and Safety Technologists (CCHEST) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BSCP). Previous experience in safety, health, environmental, or emergency response (6 months minimum) is also required; or
n•Five (5) years of work experience in the construction environment where 100% of the position’s day-to-day job functions entailed safety, health, or environmental protection.
n•A Certificate of Completion from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Outreach Training Program for either of the following courses :
n•OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.
n•OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.
nDesired/ Skill and Qualifications
n•Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, or CIH.
n•Experience working in a Category II Nuclear Operating Facility
n•Knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Work Management, and other DOE industrial hygiene and safety procedures in a construction environment.
n•Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in safety and IH program areas, including construction safety, chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment.
n•Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment.
n•Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
n•Experience implementing a respiratory protection program.
n•Experience working in a radiological facility.
n•Ability to obtain badging and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
nThis position requires the development of a close and effective working relationship with the project team, including but not limited to frontline workers, field supervision and department management. The ideal candidate must have a strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and demonstrate knowledge of risk, liability, and safety management.
