Director, Infection Prevention & Control

The Director is a key leadership position within the Quality Safety Institute (QSI) at Rochester Regional Health System (RRH). Working under the direction of the VP, Infection Prevention, and in partnership with other leaders across RRH, this role supports the Quality and Safety strategic pillar to provide the highest quality care, free from preventable harm with best in-class service at the lower cost. The Director of Infection Prevention will assist the Vice President in planning, developing and implementing all facets of Infection Prevention across Rochester Regional Health. The role will direct the appropriate allocation of hospital resources while maintaining quality patient care. The role will hold responsibility to manage the Infection Prevention team in aligned business areas. Infection Prevention & Control Leadership & Strategy Program management, leadership, development, evaluation and improvement of infection prevention processes for multiple business areas across RRH. Leads teams effectively. Aligns Infection Prevention goals with strategic agenda. In partnership with the VP of Infection Prevention and the Epidemiology Physician, monitors and modifies system Infection Prevention program related to regulatory audits and surveillance. Facilitates and leads multidisciplinary improvement efforts, and supports local IPs in these efforts. The System Director serves as a champion for a culture of safety where prevention of healthcare associated infections (HAI). Manages competing agendas and priorities while encouraging integration of prevention activities into the work of every department. Maintains the ability to influence and serve as a role model, demonstrates accountability and integrity, and communicates the value of infection prevention and surveillance. Understands barriers to effective communication. Manages Infection Prevention personnel at assigned acute business facilities and provides guidance for local teams. As assigned, leads system-wide initiatives that support the goals of the Infection Prevention program. Supports the VP of Infection Prevention as needed. Infection Prevention & Control Regulatory and Improvement Designs and maintains the surveillance system. Oversees the monitoring of infection prevention practices for aligned business areas. Works as a liaison to all regulatory agencies regarding surveillance and audits including: CMS, New York State Department of Health, Center for Disease Control, NHSN). Assures compliance with regulatory agencies and assures system wide policies and procedures are followed. Provides teaching and coaching to IPs related to surveillance and regulatory audits. Monitors healthcare-associated infections. Assesses infection prevention problems and makes recommendations for corrective action. Initiates, reviews and revises infection prevention policies and procedures for the system. Conducts outbreak investigations and initiates control measures. Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law. Provides educational offerings for orientation and ongoing in-services. Serves as the Lead Infection Prevention resource within RRH. Interprets surveillance data in conjunction with validating Infection Preventionists and validating Epidemiology Physician. Ensures surveillance data is submitted to NHSN by due date. Responsible for validating the support structure: Data mining services interfacing with laboratory information systems, pharmacy, and other health information databases, Collaborates with vendors, and information technology services. Provides feedback, trends related to surveillance data. Rapidly responds and leads team though surveillance and regulatory requirements. Utilizes and synthesizes scientific evidence, including methods for translating evidence into practice. Demonstrates disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded, and informed by evidence. Required Qualifications Bachelors in healthcare related field (i.e., Nursing, Microbiology, or Public Health) required. Certification for Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 12 months of hire. Nursing license required if Bachelors is in Nursing; otherwise not required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors in nursing preferred. Masters in healthcare related field preferred. Infection Prevention experience with additional training in Epidemiology, biostatics, environmental health and surveillance is preferred. A minimum of Three (3) years of Acute Care experience as a Nurse Supervisor is preferred. Education: Licenses / Certifications: Physical Requirements: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
