Job Description Description: Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician Accountability: Facilities Maintenance Technician reports to the Facilities Director Job Classification: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt – benefit eligible About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of building systems, irrigation systems, wells, and grounds. This includes performing routine inspections, troubleshooting issues, and executing preventative maintenance tasks. The role ensures that the facility and its surrounding grounds are operating efficiently and safely, meeting all regulatory and organizational standards. An ideal candidate will be self-motivated, handle multiple maintenance projects at the same time, and work outside throughout the year.

Responsibilities: Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way. Preforms preventative maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, irrigation systems, and wells to prevent equipment failure and ensure operational efficiency. Oversees the irrigation systems by installing, repairing, and maintaining the overall systems including pumps, pipes, valves, fountains, and controllers. Ensures that systems are functioning properly, and that water usage is optimized. Monitors and maintains the well systems, ensuring water quality and pressure meet operational needs. Performs regular inspections and repairs as needed. Assists with groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, and general upkeep of outdoor areas to ensure a well-maintained appearance. Diagnoses and repairs issues with building systems, including lighting, heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical systems, irrigation systems, fountain systems, and wells. Conducts regular inspections of the facility, irrigation systems, wells, and grounds to identify and address any safety or maintenance issues. Responds promptly to maintenance requests and work orders, ensuring timely and effective resolution. Adheres to safety regulations and protocols, ensuring that all work is performed in a safe and compliant manner. Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and inventory of tools and supplies. Manages the inventory and maintenance of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for facility upkeep, including irrigation, well, and groundskeeping equipment. Responds to emergency maintenance situations during and after regular hours as needed. Works closely with other team members, departments, and external contractors to ensure the efficient operation of the facility and related systems. Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals. Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Requirements: Requirements: Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Successfully pass a standard background review. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. Able to some nights, weekends, and holidays as well as available for on-call duties as required. Experience & Education: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field, with specific experience in irrigation systems, construction work, wells, and groundskeeping preferred. Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, irrigation, well, and groundskeeping systems. Relevant certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, irrigation systems, or groundskeeping are preferred. Strong understanding of building systems, blueprints, safety codes, irrigation systems, well operations, and groundskeeping practices. Ability to diagnose problems, identify solutions, and implement repairs quickly and effectively. Efficient verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
