The Finance Department is currently recruiting for two (2) vacancies in the Accounting Division. One (1) position will be assigned to the Accounts Receivable and Grants Management functions within the Division, and one (1) position will be assigned to General Accounting and Capital Assets functions within the Division. A day in the life would consist of:
Senior Accountant AR/Grants:
- Serving as the accounting lead for all funds coming into the city, including accounts receivable invoices, grants, city revenues, refunds, and reconciliation with subsidiary ledgers used by City departments.
- Serving as the grant reporting lead for the City's multiple grants and serving as a functional expert and resource for departments engaged in grant management.
- Training and guiding users across departments on the accounting processes for revenues, grants, and accounts receivable to enhance the City's operations and staff experience.
- Continuous learning about new accounting practices through webinars, conferences, and professional training, and assisting with the implementation of new standards.
- Participation with external auditors during the City's audit process.
- This position also serves as a functional lead for the City's newly implemented Workday ERP system, troubleshooting AR and Grant accounting issues.
- Strategizing with the Finance leadership on financial issue resolution and policy development and developing a top-notch finance team.
Senior Accountant General Accounting/Capital Assets:
- Performing general accounting tasks, including but not limited to, bank reconciliations, general journal entries and any G/L reconciliations.
- Performing the accounting of capital assets, from acquisition to disposal, ensuring accurate recording, depreciation, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Handling subscription liability accounting, including accurate tracking, reporting, and reconciling of subscription-based financial activities.
- Training and guiding users across departments on the accounting and processes for capital assets, project accounting, and subscription accounting to enhance overall City operations.
- Continuous learning about new accounting practices through webinars, conferences, and professional training, and helping with the implementation of new standards.
- Participation with external auditors during the City's audit process.
- This position also serves as a functional lead for the City's newly implemented Workday ERP system, troubleshooting General Accounting and Capital Asset related accounting issues. Strategizing with the Finance leadership on financial issue resolution and policy development and developing a top-notch finance team.
Education and/or Experience: Graduation from and accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration or a related field, and three years of professional experience in governmental or municipal accounting, including some supervisory experience or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Substitution: Four years of professional-level work in accounting and business administration, or a related field, at least three years of professional experience in governmental or municipal accounting, including some supervisory experience can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and auditing; governmental accounting and budgeting; general office procedures; methods and techniques of supervision. Ability to apply and adapt accounting and auditing principles and procedures to a variety of municipal accounting work; interpret and apply related Federal and state laws, ordinances, regulations, procedures and guidelines; analyze data and draw logical conclusions; prepare and maintain accurate reports and records; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; coordinate the work of others engaged in related accounting activity; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
