This position involves individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, collaboration with families and community partners, and leading multi-tiered support strategies to ensure that all students can thrive in a supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Counseling

Provide individual and group counseling to students, including those with IEP-related services. Conduct sociological assessments as part of the special education eligibility process. Implement and monitor Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including check-in/check-out systems and restorative practices. Support students through crisis intervention, including suicide risk and threat assessments, in collaboration with the school crisis team. Serve as a lead member of the Student Success Team (SST), working to design and implement targeted interventions. Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor student progress, ensuring that interventions lead to positive outcomes. Coordinate referrals to external agencies and community-based mental health providers, tracking student progress and follow-up services. Ensure all interventions are implemented in a way that does not pathologize students, instead fostering strength-based, culturally responsive support. Collaboration & Family Engagement

Build and maintain authentic relationships with students, families, and the broader school community. Work with teachers, administrators, and specialists to ensure social-emotional supports are integrated into classroom and school-wide practices. Provide consultation and training for school staff on strategies to support students' mental health, SEL, and behavior management. Facilitate family engagement workshops and provide resources to support student well-being at home. Professional Learning & Development

Attend monthly professional development sessions on evidence-based mental health practices, trauma-informed care, and equity-focused SEL. Participate in district-wide and school-based professional learning communities to improve service delivery and compliance with best practices. Stay current with research and emerging trends in school social work, mental health, and student wellness. Compliance & Data Management

Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes, intervention tracking, and special education documentation. Submit required reports in a timely and professional manner to the Director of Special Education and Multilingual Learners. Monitor and track the impact of mental health partnerships within the school. Qualifications & Experience

Required:

Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution. Massachusetts licensure (LCSW or LICSW) as a School Social Worker. Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs). Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices, SEL, and restorative justice in a school setting. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Multilingual Learners to support student success and school-wide initiatives. Preferred:

Experience with urban education settings and multicultural counseling approaches. Background in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and data-driven intervention models.
