Highway & Roads Market Sector Director
Primary Responsibilities
Market Sector Directors (MSD) drive our business within HDR's matrix management structure. The H&R market sector is the largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, and bridge structures. HDR's primary services include bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services.
This role requires an understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures. Responsibilities are divided into:
- Market leadership and business development (70%)
- Staff development (20%)
- Support to Operations (10%)
The Director sets the vision for HDR’s strategy, supports growth initiatives, develops staff, and maintains communication with leadership. They also support client management and business development efforts, including strategic pursuits and industry engagement.
Business Development
The Director oversees strategic vision, client relationships, project leadership, and market promotion. They work with regional and area leaders to achieve growth and market share, participate in industry associations, and develop strategic partnerships.
Staff Development
Lead an organization supporting client service, staff growth, and recruitment. Responsibilities include managing P&L, driving technical excellence, staffing plans, and performance reviews.
Support to Operations
Assist regional leaders in project delivery, monitor performance indicators, promote quality assurance, and facilitate knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Minimum 20 years in highway or bridge design/engineering
- Professional engineering license or equivalent
- Leadership roles in industry associations
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, at least 12 years of experience, strong communication, client management, business skills, and a commitment to HDR’s culture.
