Manatee County Government is hiring for a full-time hourly position with a salary range of $20.68 to $31.01 per hour in Bradenton, FL. The job number is 25-00395 and is located in the Property Management department. The position is open continuously.
Work Location: 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida 34205
Work Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm
Expected Starting Hourly Range: $20.68 - $25.84
This classification performs supervised field and/or office work on various county projects. This position may interact with contractors, consulting engineers or the public on possible controversial and/or costly matters. In accordance with area of assignment duties may include, but is not limited to, serving as a member of a field survey crew, performing clerical functions, mapping, drafting, etc.
Working Conditions: Indoor/Outdoor work situations; possible temperatures extremes, long exposure to sunlight; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment or materials up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Working near or along traffic, isolated area or areas with heavy vegetation; working in dusty, muddy or wet situations possible. Use of a personal computer may require sitting for long periods of time.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
Performs intermediate Surveying and Mapping, utilizing survey equipment, such as GPS (GNSS) Units, Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (Drones), and remote sensing surveying equipment; Performs intermediate office duties that includes, but is not limited to, online research of Public Records, County Historical Records, and any other related documents and/or data; ability to interpret and plot legal descriptions of deeds, easements, etc.; Prepare basic legal descriptions, sketches, establish data sets and/or field notes, utilize CAD and/or other related software; indexes and archives survey documents and other related material.
Performs other related work, including weather or other extreme emergency duties as required.
Field Work: Knowledge and experience with the operation of field survey equipment including but not limited to: UAS/UAV Lidar, Total Stations, Data collectors, GPS, Digital levels, and other related equipment, to ensure desired accuracy; follow established surveying procedures to obtain needed results; record precise, accurate, and complete field notes of surveying tasks performed; ensure safety procedures and practices are followed.
Office Work: Preparation, interpretation, and evaluation of Survey field notes and/or data sets; review prepared Maps, Sketches, and Legal Descriptions. Research of public records and/or other agency survey records etc.; field calls relating to Survey and Mapping and advise on Public Records Request process and procedures. Assist with analysis and review of revised maps and/or drawings utilizing CAD or GIS software; organize, maintain, and update files.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum of three (3) years' survey and mapping experience. Completion of Florida's Standards of Practice Survey Course or equivalent. Valid drivers license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Knowledge of the principles of performing basic surveys. Ability to utilize and maintain surveying tools and equipment. Knowledge of trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. Have knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties, including GIS software. Know how to interpret control point records and data sheets, as well as locate points. Ability to coordinate field and office work for various type of surveys. Knowledge and comprehension of survey maps, documents, and their preparation. A basic knowledge of the terminology and principles of drafting, including computer-aided drafting (CAD). Skilled in Public Relations, ability to interact with the public, governmental agencies, staff, and other stakeholders ethically and in a professional manner, and the ability to complete assigned tasks and obligations efficiently. Detailed knowledge of survey computations, types of surveys, comprehensive field note taking, plan reading/preparation. Knowledgeable of the application of standard field equipment and related computer hardware/software.
